Apple Crisp Donut/Doughnut Recipe

Who doesn’t love apple crisp? Anddddd who doesn’t love donuts? Okay, great. So we’ve established that you are going to love this recipe, now all you have to do it try it!  These fluffy apple cinnamon donuts topped with crispy and crunchy apple cinnamon crumble are to die for.  Hope you enjoy!

Recipe makes approximately 10-12 donuts depending on how much you fill the pan.

Ingredients Needed:

  • 1/4 cup of butter melted
  • 1/4 cup of canola oil
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 1/4 cup of butter melted
  • 1/4 cup of canola oil
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 2+2/3 cup of flour (I prefer whole wheat)
  • 1+1/2 tsp of baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp of baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 1 cup of finely chopped apples
  • 1/4 cup of butter, NOT melted (should be room temp or a little chilled)
  • 1/4 cup of flour (I prefer whole wheat)
  • 1 cup of oats
  • 1/2 tsp of cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar
  • 2 tsp of maple syrup (add more or less, depending on how maple-y you want it!)
  • 1 tbsp of milk
  • 1/2 cup of powdered sugar

Directions:

Donut & Crumble Topping

  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees and grease donut pan
  2. In a large bowl, mix together:
    • 1/4 cup of butter melted
    • 1/4 cup of canola oil
    • 3/4 cup of sugar
  3. To that mixture, add:
    • 1/4 cup of butter melted
    • 1/4 cup of canola oil
    • 3/4 cup of sugar
  4. Whisk or use a hand mixer to mix until smooth.
  5. To that mixture, add:
    • 2+2/3 cup of flour (I prefer whole wheat)
    • 1+1/2 tsp of baking powder
    • 1/4 tsp of baking soda
    • 1/2 tsp of salt
  6. Mix in 1 cup of finely chopped apples (Note: batter will be thick, don’t worry!)
  7. To make the crumble topping, combine:
    • 1/4 cup of butter, NOT melted (should be room temp or a little chilled)
    • 1/4 cup of flour (I prefer whole wheat)
    • 1 cup of oats
    • 1/2 tsp of cinnamon
    • 1/2 cup of brown sugar
  8. Fill the donut pan with batter (see tip here) & press the crumble topping into the top once filled
  9. Bake for 7-8 minutes or until golden brown
  10. Let cool completely before glazing

Maple Glaze

  1. In a bowl, mix together:
    • 2 tsp of maple syrup (add more or less, depending on how maple-y you want it!)
    • 1 tbsp of milk
    • 1/2 cup of powdered sugar
  2. Drizzle on to the donut

I love a little extra crunch, so I top these donuts with crushed pecans, feel free to put your own toppings!
